I know because I was once where you are. I had a sugar habit from childhood that included eating chocolate bars and later, as an adult, protein bars every day. I actually thought the protein bars were healthy. I was bloated all the time because of all the sugar I was consuming. I finally set an intention and came up with a plan. Initially I stopped eating bars, followed by desserts at restaurants, then ice cream, cakes and cookies at home; that was hardest. Ironically I never used sugar in my herbal teas and I ate a healthy diet throughout my sugar cravings.
After becoming aware that stress in my life was fueling my sugar habit, I made simple changes in how I thought and reacted to life situations, and become a student in personal development, which led to having a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle.
